Deletion clues

Letters are removed from a word to leave the answer.

Deletion clues take a word and chop something off: the first letter ('headless', 'beheaded'), the last ('endless', 'curtailed'), the middle ('heartless') or the outside ('peeled', 'shelled').

Example

Direction of headless beast (4)

EAST: BEAST without its first letter ('headless') leaves EAST, a direction.
